Nitrogen Dynamics in Tropical Soils Treated with Liquid and Granular Urea Fertilizers

The mineralization of urea fertilizer mostly regulates the nitrogen dynamics in soil. A laboratory-scale study was conducted to compare two tropical soil series incubated with either liquid (LU) or granular (GU) at 0, 300, 400 500 mg/kg soils samples used experiment were Bungor and Selangor which have a sandy clay loam texture, respectively. NH4+-N, NO3−-N concentration measured for four weeks determine urea-N while ten pore volumes water NH4+-N leaching loss. At same application rate, higher concentrations recorded LU applied throughout incubation period case N mineralization. Urea-N recovery GU than treated first no present both after third week incubation. (NH4+-N NO3−-N) that increased rate soils. whereas total loss results suggest better source rapid mineralization, quicker availability lower
